Sisterhood: Women Working Together

Keep up to date on the events with the Sisterhood E-News Monthly. Click Here to sign up!

Since 1926, Sisterhood of Temple Israel has been playing a vital role in the life of our congregation and community.

Sisterhood members spearhead social action projects, organize spiritual gatherings and special holiday observances, and provide opportunities for intellectual discussion and Torah study. We comfort those in need and help congregants plan celebrations and simchas.

Sisterhood oversees the Hilda Goodman Judaica Shop, organizes the Temple-wide Chanukah Bazaar, and sells Entertainment Books and Passover candy. Through these and other fundraisers, we raise money for scholarships to Temple Israel schools and camps, thereby bringing Jewish educational and recreational experiences to children who could not otherwise afford them.

Make friends and make a difference by getting involved in Sisterhood. We’d love to hear from you!

SisterZ in the Hood
Our newest Sisterhood Committee
Hip happenings designed for a certain type of TIOH “Sister”: one who laughs a lot (often at herself), wishes she could hang out with her gal pals more, reads The Wall Street Journal and In Style magazine, is a member of Sisterhood (or will be), has cooked for ailing friends, enjoys a good cry, volunteers at a food pantry, loves her family (even if they're a little crazy), probably forgot something on her grocery list, and really just wants to have fun!

If this sounds like you, then watch for upcoming events where you can meet up with your fellow SisterZ.

And remember, “hip” is a state of mind, not an age.

Our Members: Bridging the Generations
Sisterhood members represent a vibrant cross-section of Jewish women: We are young and old, single and married. We are working professionals and homemakers; entrepreneurs and artists; doctors, writers, lawyers, and teachers. We are daughters, mothers, grandmothers, wives, aunts, nieces—and sisters. We are all busy people who make time for our Sisterhood. Why? Because we recognize its value to our congregation, to the world beyond the Temple doors, and to each of us individually.

Sisterhood Needs You!
For more than 75 years, women of all ages and interests have been joining Sisterhood of Temple Israel. Please continue that proud tradition by becoming a member.

Even though every Sisterhood event and program is open to ALL women of Temple Israel, we need you to officially join our organization, in part because we rely on your membership dues. That money (less than $1/week!) not only helps us spearhead local projects and events, it also funds Women of Reform Judaism, which works on behalf of adults and children around the world.

Your level of participation is up to you—but whether you become actively involved or simply submit your dues as one of our silent partners, you are choosing to support a dynamic and essential organization.

You Need Sisterhood!
Sisterhood involvement can help you forge strong connections to the entire Temple Israel community. And in today’s stressful times, it’s comforting to have “sisters” you can count on—people to laugh with who will appreciate and support you.

Throughout the year, you’ll find many other opportunities for spiritual growth, social action, intellectual development, and good old-fashioned shmoozing at Sisterhood-sponsored Chanukah celebrations, Passover Seders, book clubs, and educational programs.

Women of Reform Judaism
Sisterhood of Temple Israel helps sustain Women of Reform Judaism, a vital national organization that fights for humane treatment of women and children around the world; provides rabbinic scholarships; and supports the National Federation of Temple Youth (NFTY), the Jewish Braille Institute, ARZA/World Union, and other social justice programs.
