Education - Religious School
Religious School

Temple Israel of Hollywood’s Religious School is an exciting place to explore Judaism. Our welcoming and warm environment fosters a positive Jewish identity in each student through creative Jewish experiences.

Our program educates 250 students from Kindergarten through High School.  We offer an integrated program in Hebrew and Judaica, which meets on Sunday mornings and Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons.

The Religious School curriculum emphasizes moral and ethical Jewish principles, Jewish literacy (textual, historical, and cultural), Hebrew language, and the importance of community.  As well, our students participate in weekly worship services, music, Israeli dance, family programs, Retreats, electives and other fun and exciting activities.

Club 56:  Grades 5-6
What Is Club 56? Club 56 is Temple Israel's youth group for 5th and 6th graders from both the Religious and Day Schools. Through fun activities that bring lots of kids together, the youth group gives our kids the opportunity to build and strengthen their ties with other Jewish youth and the Temple, increasing the odds that they will stay Jewishly involved beyond their Bar/Bat Mitzvah. Events are on the Sunday's listed below, beginning at 12:30 pm, right after Religious School ends. You may attend any event you like without signing up for the entire season’s events. Registration for events is generally due one week prior to the event in order to be guaranteed a spot. Parents should drop off and pick up their kids in the covered parking lot at Temple Israel. All registration checks should be made out to “Temple Israel” and mailed to: Temple Israel, 7300 Hollywood Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90046, Attn: Keary Slater (Club 56)

2006-2007 Season The 2006-2007 season of Club 56 will begin in October. A calendar of events will be mailed to all families with children enrolled in Temple Israel’s Religious and Day Schools. HOTY
Advisor: Jason Bressler

*What is HoTY?
HoTY stands for Hollywood Temple Youth, the senior youth group at Temple Israel of Hollywood. HoTY is open to any high school student at TIOH and is a wonderful way to make friends, be Jewish, and have fun.

*What is NFTY? - For over sixty years, the North American Federation of Temple Youth (NFTY) has offered thousands of young people the opportunity to explore and live Reform Judaism. Today, over 450 Reform congregations throughout North America sponsor Temple Youth Groups, bringing the NFTY experience to more than 10,000 high school-age young people. Through involvement opportunities offered by congregations, our 19 NFTY regions, and on the North American level, NFTYites strive to forge an identity in consonance with the goals and values of Reform Judaism. Whether functioning as an organization, program, or youth movement, NFTY is a Reform Jewish community for high school students. NFTYites forge and build friendships, lifelong Reform Jewish identities, and leadership skills through community building, worship, social action, and experiential youth-led Jewish educational programming. Many NFTYites serve as NFTY leaders on the local TYG, regional, and even North American levels. Many NFTY Leaders continue on to become both lay and professional leaders of the Reform Jewish Movement.

*How does this all relate? - HoTY is directly affiliated with NFTY So-Cal, which is a region of NFTY, which is a division of the URJ (Union for Reform Judaism).  It all adds up to Jewish teens having a great time together!

For more information about HoTY and to get involved, please contact Beau Shapiro, HoTY advisor at 323.876.8330, x305 or beau@tioh.org.
