We recognize that a close partnership between school and family must exist to create healthy, happy children. Our school is a place where parents and indeed the entire family are an integral part of the educational process. Through classroom participation, parent education workshops, holiday celebration, committees, class meetings and individual conferences, parents and staff work together. The school and class newsletters inform parents regularly of upcoming activities and ideas for parent-child development. The family becomes a significant part of the larger and very special community-Temple Israel of Hollywood.

Temple Israel Nursery School offers a warm, creative environment in a Jewish atmosphere where each child’s own unique style of living and learning is valued and nurtured. Our school welcomes all families desiring a Jewish education for their child.

The foundation of personality, self image, and the motivation to learn are all firmly established in the first five years of a child’s life. Using various philosophies-developmental, High Scope and Reggio Emilia, our school gives children the tools, space, and support for the kind of experiences that establish a positive sense of self. Children are encouraged to explore the world, to learn, to be a part of a group and work effectively with peers. Teachers help the children handle frustrations and solve problems in constructive ways. Learning is self-rewarding, productive, joyous, and non-competitive. Temple Israel Nursery School teaches to the total child-emotional, social, intellectual, physical, and spiritual. Our program addresses the four most important tasks of early childhood education which continue throughout life: separation and the achievement of autonomy, language acquisition, communication skills, and socialization.
Activity centers provide for exploration and discovery in a non-hurried environment. Our main goal is to encourage social and emotional development through creative play experience. Language, math, art and music activities are provided daily as well as vigorous outdoor play. Parents are an integral part of the educational process and are invited to participate in Temple events and Jewish holiday celebrations. Call our Early Childhood Principal Sherry Fredman, at (323) 876-8330, ext. 5000 for more information.

Children at Temple Israel are taught in small classroom groups to insure a sense of belonging. There is a high ratio of adults to children, the optimal learning environment, allowing each child (and parent) to receive responsive attention and support.
Daily activities include a balanced program of indoor/outdoor, quiet/active, teacher-directed/ child-directed and planned/emergent experiences. The program includes a range of language development activities, excellent and appealing books, guided explorations through the beginning of scientific and mathematical discovery, interaction with a variety of media and materials, music, drama, computer, and gymnastics. Classrooms are filled with abundant hands-on material, encouraging exploration, creativity, building, fantasy, and communication.
The Nursery School follows the yearly cycle of the Jewish holidays. Each week is highlighted by the Friday Shabbat celebration. Monthly, our TOT Shabbat program is a great opportunity for building community. The Jewish values of kindness, consideration, compassion, and fairness are an important part of the daily experience. The Rabbis and Cantor are involved with the children and their families on a weekly basic and during holiday celebrations.
