Clergy : Rabbi John L. Rosove jrosove@tioh.org

Rabbi John L. Rosove assumed his duties as Senior Rabbi of Temple Israel of Hollywood in November 1988.  A native of Los Angeles, Rabbi Rosove received his Bachelor of Arts in Art History from UC Berkeley in 1972, a Masters of Hebrew Letters from the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, Los Angeles in 1976, Rabbinic Ordination from HUC-JIR, New York in 1979, and a Doctor of Divinity degree from HUC-JIR, Los Angeles in 2004.  A sensitive and caring pastor, Rabbi Rosove has a passion for Jewish community and people, studying and teaching Torah, Jewish tradition and ethics, social justice, Israel, and progressive Zionism.  Rabbi Rosove is the President of the Pacific Southwest Region of the Association of Reform Zionists of America/World Union for Progressive Judaism, and has served on a number of local and national Jewish organization Boards.  He was the 2002 Recipient of the World Union for Progressive Judaism International Humanitarian Award and received special commendation from the State of Israel Bonds.  He has formed twin synagogue relationships between Temple Israel and Kehillat Mevasseret Zion, Israel and the Progressive Synagogues in Kiev and Kharkov, Ukraine. During his tenure, Rabbi Rosove has overseen the rebirth of Temple Israel of Hollywood.  He has spearheaded a number of new education and social action projects including the Temple’s Day School and Big Sunday Day of Service.  He has been an advocate for liturgical change and stronger adult learning programs, and inspired Temple Israel’s participation in the Synagogue 2000 program.  Most recently he has overseen the creation of the Temple’s new High Holyday Machzor and its Shabbat and Festival Siddur.  He and his wife, Barbara, an investment advisor, are the loving parents of two sons, Daniel and David.

Clergy : Rabbi Michelle Missaghieh rmichelle@tioh.org

Rabbi Michelle Missaghieh has served as Temple Israel's Associate Rabbi since her ordination from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in 1996. Rabbi Missaghieh holds a Master's Degree in Jewish Education and enjoys teaching Jews of all ages. She takes special interest in working with individuals for conversion and wrote an award-winning conversion brochure. She strongly believes in empowering congregants to study Torah and participate in Jewish ritual life. Rabbi Missaghieh is a frequent contributing writer to the "Los Angeles Jewish Journal" and her sermons have appeared in Sh'ma's collection of "Best High Holy Day Sermons." Rabbi Missaghieh coordinates the Temple's Adult Education programs, our Healing and Meditation Services, contributed to our new TIOH High Holyday machzor, and facilitates "The Healing Community" committee. She and her husband, Bruce Ellman, a doctoral student of psychology, are the proud parents of two daughters, Jael and Sivan.  

Clergy : Cantor Aviva Rosenbloom cantor@tioh.org

Cantor Aviva Rosenbloom has served as Temple Israel's Cantor since 1975. In that capacity she leads music at services and life cycle events, directs the Temple's children's and adult choirs, teaches students the liturgy and scriptural chanting for their b'nai mitzvah ceremonies, and Jewish songs and prayers to every age group within our congregation. A graduate of Akiba Hebrew Academy in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Cantor Rosenbloom received her Bachelor's Cum Laude from Brandeis University and her Master's Degree in Music from Cal State Fullerton in 1982. She studied to become a cantor with her father, Samuel Kligfeld, and with Cantor William Sharlin of the Hebrew Union College. Cantor Rosenbloom is a member of the American Conference of Cantors and has performed as a soprano soloist with the Los Angeles Master Chorale. She is involved in Jewish feminist activities and has written a number of songs celebrating the contributions of Jewish women; her CD of original music, "Streams in the Desert", is on sale at the Temple gift shop. She is married to Ben, an urban planner and jazz pianist; their son Etan graduated recently from the University of Pennsylvania, and is working in the music industry.
