Rabbi/Educator-Religious School Director - Rabbi Jocee Hudson

 

Rabbi Hudson joined Temple Israel of Hollywood as Rabbi Educator-Religious School Director in 2009. Rabbi Hudson holds Master of Arts degrees in Jewish Education and Hebrew Letters and was ordained as a Rabbi in 2007 from the Hebrew Union College–Jewish Institute of Religion in Los Angeles.  During her course of studies at HUC-JIR, Rabbi Hudson received awards in bible, liturgy, and Jewish education. Rabbi Hudson is a contributor to the Women of Reform Judaism’s recently published The Torah: A Women's Commentary.  Before joining us at Temple Israel of Hollywood, Rabbi Hudson served as the Director of Religious Education of Temple Beth Sholom of Santa Ana, California.  In 2007, she founded the Nefesh Minyan, a community minyan for Orange County Jews in their 20s and 30s, and served as their spiritual leader and advisor.  In previous years, Rabbi Hudson served as a student rabbi for Temple Israel of Marion, Ohio, as a teaching-assistant at the University of Southern California, and as an education intern at Congregation Ner Tamid of the South Bay.  Some of her other cherished learning experiences include serving as a chaplain-intern at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles and teaching at a Jewish preschool.  Rabbi Hudson graduated Suma Cum Laude with High Honors from Brandeis University.  At Brandeis, she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in socio-cultural anthropology, a minor in Near Eastern Judaic Studies, and was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society.  Rabbi Hudson is married to Dr. Tali Tadmor, a professional musician, who currently serves as TIOH’s accompanist. Head of School -  Rachel Lewin


Rachel is a highly seasoned, award-winning educator with significant expertise in Day School education and leadership, curriculum development and Israel-related programming. Prior to coming to TIOH, she spent six years heading the middle school at Wornick Day School in Northern California. Rachel has served in senior positions at three other Jewish Day and High Schools, and has extensive classroom teaching experience, both in school and synagogue settings. Rachel has a B.A. in liberal studies from Mills College, a multiple subject teaching credential from JFK University, and is a fellow of the prestigious Jewish Theological Seminary's Day School Leadership Training Institute. Rachel has also studied education and international relations at Hebrew University, in Jerusalem, and attended Harvard University's Principals Institute. She has developed artist-in-residence educational programs in the expressive arts and photography. Rachel was a founding board member of two schools – Kehillah High School and Oakland Hebrew Day School, both in Northern California.  She grew up in the United States and Israel, and is fluent in English and Hebrew. Nursery School Principal - Sherry Fredman

 

Sherry Fredman joined the staff of Temple Israel in 1995.  She first served as a teacher and After School Enrichment Coordinator in the Day School.   Then she became the Resource Coordinator and founded Camp Simcha in 1996.  She was appointed the Nursery School Principal in 2001.  Originally from Chicago, she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education from Northeastern Illinois University , and has since received her Judaic Studies Credential from the University of Judaism .  She completed her course work in Early Childhood Administration at UCLA.  Sherry sits on the Board of A.E.J.E., the Association for Early Childhood Jewish Educators, as the Vice President responsible for membership.  Also, she is a member of the URJ Early Childhood Director’s organization.  Sherry is a passionate and enthusiastic educator and loves working with young children and their families.  Sherry and her husband Murray, an automobile dealer, have been married for over thirty years, and they have one adult daughter Erin. Director of Development and Communications- Roberta Berrent

 

Roberta brings to her position more than 20 years as a senior executive in business, marketing, entertainment, new media, and public service.  She has proven expertise in brand building and creative marketing management and is an experienced leader of corporate public service programs and community organizations initiatives.   For the past eight years Roberta has operated her own business called “The MindClick Group, Inc.” Before that, she served as a chief image strategist and director for the Walt Disney Company’s CEO Michael Eisner, as well as the Marketing Director for ABC News in New York, working directly for the late ABC Evening News Anchor Peter Jennings. Roberta and her husband David, have been temple members for many years, and their daughter Isabel is a student at the TIOH Day School. Contact Roberta

 

Director of Membership and Programs - Stephanie Steingold Bressler

 

Stephanie Steingold Bressler, Director of Membership and Programs, joined the Temple Israel staff in May 2007, after graduating with a Master's Degree in Jewish Communal Service from the Hebrew Union College- Jewish Institute of Religion, and a Master's Degree in Communication Management from the Annenberg School at University of Southern California. She wrote her Master's thesis on the growing field of Jewish Teen Philanthropy, and communicating with Jewish teens. During graduate school, Stephanie taught religious school here at Temple Israel, and interned at Hadassah Southern California and Temple Emanuel of Beverly Hills. Prior to coming to graduate school, Stephanie received her BA in Near Eastern Judaic Studies from Brandeis University.
