Strike up the band
What kind of music includes parts for mandolin, recorder, violin and electric guitar? Jewish music, played one Friday night a month at Temple Israel’s Shabbat services. What ensemble includes a clarinet, piano and flutes with an electric bass? The eclectic, energetic Chai Tones, our all-congregant band. So why should I come to hear the music? Because the joy and exuberance are infectious! You’ll be inspired to sing and pray with spirit and new understanding of the feelings behind the prayers. Interesting, but what does this music sound like? It’s hard to describe - kind of klezmer meets blues, reggae, classical, Israeli and pop. You’ve got to hear guitarist Lenny Coltun split the Red Sea with his solos on the Mi Chamocha!
