Steve SloanI have had the great honor and pleasure of serving on the Temple Israel of Hollywood board for many years. I was Treasurer during the Great Recession, and then was TIOH Board President for 2 years (2011-2013). I have also served on numerous committees including Finance, Personnel, Nominating, and Hillside. Roberta Berrent and I chaired the Day School Head of School Search Committee.
Our family joined TIOH in 2003 when our daughter Sami entered the Pre-K summer transition program, ahead of entering Kindergarten at the Day School. Sami attended the Day School through 6th grade, and then went to Oakwood School and is currently at the University of Puget Sound.
TIOH has played an extremely important role in our family life. Sami grew up at TIOH and had her Bat Mitzvah in our sanctuary. I participated in the Adult B’nai Mitzvah program. My wife Melissa served as TIOH Librarian until 2017. And all 3 of us have been to Israel, with groups from TIOH.
Even with our relocation to San Francisco in 2017, TIOH remains our community, our home away from home.
Professionally, I recently retired from Wells Fargo Bank, where I had responsibility for the company’s commercial banking business in Southern California, and most recently in Northern California. I also served on the boards of JVS (Jewish Vocational Service), and the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation.
